Grand Cayman voted 'Best Island to Live On'
Grand Cayman has been highlighted in the July/August issue of ISLANDS Magazine's as one of the world's "20 Best Islands to Live On."
Each year, editors of 'Islands Magazine' which has a circulation of more than 204,000, rank the top 20 islands, based on important criteria such as real estate values, ease of immigration, expat
communities, and quality of island life.
The article which particularly references Grand Cayman's diving and the famed Seven Mile Beach, also includes an interview with a locally based tourism industry worker.
This is the third year that Grand Cayman has been included as one of the Islands on this prestigious list. The previous years were 2007 and 2009 respectively.

Cayman Breaks Guinness World Record
Visitors and residents alike paraded along Grand Cayman's famous Seven Mile Beach on June 17th and broke the Guinness World Record for the longest bikini parade. The family event benefited the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association and drew hundreds of bikini clad participants along the beach.

Now you can still get a nice walk and help one of the Cayman Islands' charities.
A new scheme called ‘Doggie's Day Out' started by the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman with the Humane Society of the Cayman Islands. The Mission of the Cayman Islands Humane Society is to provide shelter, care and attention to all unwanted companion animals, and seek out responsible and loving homes for them.
Now twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, guests of the five star resort have the chance to walk a dog in return of a US$25 donation to the Humane Society.

Free Sea School with SpongeBob Squarepants, who will be on Grand Cayman throughout the summer until 6th September 2010, where children receive hands-on opportunities to learn about marine life and Caymanian culture.

Learn to Cook Cayman Style
Budding Caribbean cooks can now learn how to create traditional dishes such as custard topped corn bread, Christmas beef stew, pawpaw heavy cake and conch stew thanks to a new series of cookery
lessons from The National Trust of the Cayman Islands.
These lessons will be held on the second Wednesday of every month and cost $25 per person.

Unique Dive Site Planned for this Summer
The USS Kittiwake, which was a submarine rescue vessel will be sunk of Grand Cayman this summer to create another artificial reef for both divers and snorkelers to experience. This is after a deep cleaning process has been completed to ensue that all harmful materials have been removed.
This is not the first time that the Cayman Islands has used a retired vessel to build a reef. A Russian warship was sunk off Cayman Brac ten years ago. But it is the first time that a US vessel has been sold t a foreign country for this purpose.
The USS Kittiwake will be around 15 feet from the surface.

Dow Travers, the first Cayman Islands' Winter Olympic athlete finshed 69th in the male Giant Slalom. His time of 3:02.89 was just 25.06 seconds slower than the winner Carlo Janka.

Sole Representative at the Winter Olympics
Dow Travers, 22, is the lone athlete representing the Cayman Islands at this year's Winter Olympics, and is also the first ever to do so.
As the flag-bearer, he'll march into the Vancouver stadium at the head of a delegation that consists of his coach and the country's chef de mission before heading back up the highway to Whistler to compete in the giant slalom.

According to figures released by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism there has been a slight upturn in air arrivals during November 2009, with 20,614 this year compared to 19,731 in 2008.
Cruise ship passenger arrivals were also slightly up for the month, with 118,292 this year as opposed to 117,221 last November.

As part of its commitment to expanding and improving its service to customers, Cayman Airways has extended the business hours for its Reservations Call Center and Ticket Office in George Town. The Call Center for Cayman Airways Reservations will now be open from 7am-9pm daily, and the new hours for the Ticket Office on Owen Roberts Drive will be 8am-6pm Monday through Friday, and 8:30am to 4:30pm on Saturdays

There has been a change to the fee for a marriage license following a change to the Marriage (Amendment) Law, 2009 . This fee has increased by $50US to £350US.

The Cayman Islands Governor has officially declared Friday, 6 November 2009 a public holiday, in order to commemorate the day of commencement of the 2009 Cayman Islands Constitution. The public holiday will not be an annual holiday, as the event will occur only once.
Monday, 9 November will still be marked as Remembrance Day, an annual public holiday.

The Cayman Islands Government has been forced to postpone all beauty pageant contests due to the recession. Until Cayman's struggling economy recovers, this will bring a saving of $100,000, but it also means that there will not be any representatives from the Cayman Islands at the next Miss World and Miss Universe events.
