Car Hire
Small Hire CarDriving is easy as you drive on the left as in the UK. Please take care to avoid American drivers who not only struggle with driving on the correct side of the road, but roundabouts really blow their minds!
Speed limits in built-up areas vary between 25 mph and 30 mph. The maximum speed limit on the open road is 50 mph. Speed limits are well sign-posted and penalties for speeding and dangerous driving are severe.
Most hotels can arrange for a hire car if you only need one for a day or so, or you can collect a car at the airport. Holiday Hut can also arrange to hire a car for you. One advantage of booking through Holiday Hut is that you have a UK contact should you have an after contract problem.
In order to hire a car, tourists need to obtain a temporary driving permit. These are available from police stations and car rental agencies to holders of valid driver's licenses. While not a
mandatory requirement, it is advisable to take an International Driving Permit (IDP) if your license is not in English.
Roads are generally in a good state of repair, but petrol and diesel is expensive when compared to other Caribbean islands. Not all petrol stations are open 24 hours.
